Subject: EuroPULSE technology evaluation and recommendation
Power Controls AS is located in Moss, Norway and specialise in battery care and power control
electronics. We develop and manufacture advanced; microprocessor controlled battery chargers
for industrial applications.
In June 1997 we were informed about the EuroPULSE technology that claims to have a positive
effect on restoring sulphated batteries as well as being an effective maintenance tool. As
sulphating is the most common reason for reduced battery performance, we found these
interesting and inquired units for evaluation.
In the past year we have studied the technology and products and found them to work very
efficiently. We worked closely with one of our clients, a huge forklift user, to verify the
practical use. We installed 10 EuroPULSE units on 24-volt traction batteries that were all 8
years old or more, and in the end of their life cycle. After a period of 30 days with EuroPULSE
installed, all of the batteries were restored and they were no longer limited by insufficient
battery capacity after the testing period.
EuroPULSE technology products deliver very energetic pulse energy to the battery plates, which
proves to energise the adhered sulphur molecules. As the sulphate is being pulsed, the sulphur
returns to the electrolyte as active molecules. Important to note is that the pulses will have
no harmful effects on the battery, as they are weak compared to the signals emitted by a
thyristor traction controller. The thyristor traction controller, which controls the current
going to the forklift's motor, generates a lot of high energy and spikes back into the battery
which can be as far as hundred times more powerful than the EuroPULSE pulses.
The results achieved in our investigation are very positive and we will recommend the use of
this technology for better battery performance. As for the long-term effect, we were not
available to evaluate, however as the technology keeps the batteries from sulphating it points
to a significant extension of the service life of the battery as well.
Yours sincerely,
